School Cafeterias

The Plastic Reduction Project in Coppell aims to replace single use plastic with reusable materials to save costs for the school district. Preliminary analysis shows moving to reusables will cut costs for the district because of currently available subsidies for all reusable utensils by plasticfreerestaurants.org even after considering additional expenses related to cleaning, training, and labor. We want to pilot this plan at CHS9 campus or one of the chosen schools by the district, to test out the idea. Once we know that it works, we hope that it can be implemented across the district.

Restaurants

Our goal is also to reduce single use plastics in restaurants by conducting surveys to gauge customer sentiment, as well as work with restaurants to implement a solution that is feasible and cost effective for restaurants. Some possible options to reduce single use plastics include

  1. Using only reusable utensils in on-site dining
  2. Paper bags for takeout/to-go orders
  3. An option at check out to provide single use items including condiments only if requested
  4. Bringing your own containers for to-go orders or restaurant owned reusable
